Villard de Lans is the "capital" and centre of attraction of the Vercors.
At an altitude of 1050m,
the village is home to 4000 inhabitants, stretching along the foothills of the Grande Moucherolle, standing high above at 2285m.
Its enviable location, easy access and the purity of its atmosphere (widely acknowledged since the beginning of the last century) led on to a new economic movement, boosted by the 1968 winter Olympic Games.
Climatic tourism, summer holidays and winter sports soon developed.

A resort, called "Le Balcon de Villard-Cote 2000", was created at the beginning of the 1970s,
giving Villard de Lans an essential tool to enable direct access to the downhill ski slopes.
Villard de Lans has never ceased to evolve and today, the tourist offer is modern and varied, while its authenticity as a mid-altitude agricultural town has not faded, remaining lively all year round. |
