 |
Near the Rhone valley, where the Isère meets the Drome,
discover an immense plateau,
one of the most beautiful and largest in European in the middle of teh Vercors regional natural park.
The largest natural reserve in France is at the southern end: "Les Hauts Plateaux".
A reserve is a territory that deserves protection for its animals, plants, fossils, minerals, etc. |
 |
The Hauts Plateaux du Vercors was classed as a natural reserve
on February 27th 1985. The area alternates between paster and forest (fir, beech, spruce and dwarf pine). Animal life is discreet but you can find most species of mountain dwellers, like the marmot, chamois, variable hare, rock ptarmigan and pygmy owl.
This exceptional territory is also home to a number of rare species, including the ladies slipper orchid, the ibex and the royal eagle; not forgetting the 2 symbols of the Vercors park: the wild tulip and the black grouse. |
The aim of the reserve is to preserve this area from any development. It is unique in its size, its ecological diversity and the importance of the relationships formed between mankind and nature + info |
