"Here, the air is golden"

Many top level sportsmen and women were born and/or live in Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors.

They train, relax and rejuvenate in the fresh air of the Vercors, which helps them win the most prestigious victories.

Simon FOURCADE - Biathlon

The Vercors air has certainly been beneficial to French bi-athletes.
After Raphaël Poiré, who grew up here, Simon Fourcade is making the most of the excellent training conditions at the Villard de Lans club.

Simon Fourcade was born in 1984. He won four silver medals and four gold medals in 2003 and 2005 in various junior biathlon world championship disciplines. In 2007, in his first world cup year  as a senior, he had the audacity to remain on the heels of Raphaël Poiré in Lathi, Finland, winning 2nd place, just behind his idol.
Simon Fourcade is a safe bet for the French biathlon!!

CAROLE MONTILLET - Alpine skiing

The most famous of all!
Olympic downhill champion in 2002, Carole has always been loyal to Villard de Lans.
Her Vertacomicorien (the name of the inhabitants of the Vercors) roots have helped her climb the highest steps of many international podiums. Her list of medals speaks for itself and here are just the most recent wins: 9 French championship wins in downhill and Super-G.
2002: Olympic downhill champion in Salt Lake City
2003: Super-G world cup winner (crystal globe), 1st in Super-G in Val d'Isère.

And any chance of defending her title was destroyed, but showing true sportsmanship she was brave enough to take part only a few days after her terrible accident....And it was a miracle,in the Super-G,she managed to win 5th place! Bravo and thank you Carole for these unforgettable moments!
She also took part in the exciting world of automobile racing(She participated in the Rallye des Gazelles,Rally Lisbon Dakar2007 and the Transafricaine)Carole is now giving stress management and motivational courses in business firms.
